I was lucky tonight. I had done well in my dream training last night, and Fleshspark had given me a night off. So, what did I do with my free time tonight? I decided to go for a nice night time stroll instead of staying back in my den and sleeping like I should've been. With my scaled tail as a torch and my flames that made up my fire mane as high as they would go, I ambled along Flesh's Burrow; my sore joints complained and begged me to give them a break. My Dull Pack training sessions were hard on my body, but it was worth it in my mind to see the look of approval on Fleshspark's facade.
I had been thinking a lot about pups lately, seemingly for no reason at all. Perhaps it was because my pack had been reduced to pretty much nothing, and I felt like we needed to get our numbers up. My mind drifted back to Oakspark. Did I love him? Well, no. I respected him as my alpha; the leader of Eastern Rock. In my mind, this was more of a form of business that needed to be conducted; nothing more. After all, every great leader needed heirs, right?
I exhaled slowly and extended my wings before I crouched. With great force, I launched my mass into the air in a vertical take-off. In a matter of a few power strokes of my dark feathered sails, I was soon gliding on the warm thermal drafts of air. I did a few lazy summer saults, some twists, a flip and a spiral dive here and there, before I did my final climb and began my head dive back to terra firma.
My talons hit the ground with a muffled thud; my joints screamed in protest as they absorbed the shock of my landing, and the pain caused me to growl softly.
Dimming down my mane and second tail, I allowed my joints to get a break by lowering myself to the churned earth below me. I propped my head up in my outstretched front talons as I tried in vain to get at least a little rest. DEspite my best efforts, my dual toned windows would not close.
And so I stayed, staring blankly into the distance.
The large brute lifted his head higher as a new heartbeat shook the earth. Now, where had this come from? He dropped the jackal he'd had clamped in his jaws and searched the darkness of the tunnels. Oakspark had taken to searching these burrows a good hour or so ago for the damned piece of meat, though it may feed him and his co-alphas at best. Sparks permit, he'd have to work this problem out at a later time.
Crouched low - as was the only position he could take to fit inside the tunnel - the alpha knit his brows together. Yes, a large heartbeat, fast, and a shock of an aerial landing... He navigated back toward one of the many exits of the extensive tunnel system and ambled lazily toward the source. A faint glow lit the surrounding night and outlined a lithe, black frame. The embers of her pelt were easily recognizable, and Oak silently chided himself for not placing the pulse sooner. Of course - Silverfire.
With a light flick of his tail, he set down his catch and closed the earth around it, then set off at an easy stroll toward the female. "Soldiers chase you out of the den, love?"
There was a rustling noise behind me, and I looked back, a wolf-shaped splotch of red, orange, and yellow stood out among the cool purple and blue tones of the surrounding area. Almost immediately, I got to all fours, fanned my feathered tail, and turned up the brightness of my mane and scaled tail of flames. With the area better lit, I allowed my tense posture to relax when I clearly saw the familiar brown pelt and missing eye. It was just Oakspark. Just the wolf I wanted to see. part of me thought.
I exhaled in relief. "Soldiers chase you out of the den, love?" I chuckled. "Yeah, with their obnoxious snoring." I replied in a half annoyed, half amused tone. "One of them kept kicking me in his sleep and I was this close to either giving his fur a good singe or raking a talon across him." I chuckled. "He was lucky that I wasn't exactly feeling like doing such a thing." I extended both of my inky black wings and rocked my feather clad frame back, closing my eyes as a series of pops and cracks went up my spine and neck.
Once I finished stretching, I collapsed my 'fancy' tail and took a seat; watching with calm eyes as the alpha approached me.
He felt a faint flash of satisfaction as Silverfire bristled - both invested in her alertness and his clearly unexpected appearance.
The beta relaxed and let out a soft breath, her strangely colored eyes light in a face set in shadow. "Yeah, with their obnoxious snoring." she replied wryly, "One of them kept kicking me in his sleep and I was this close to either giving his fur a good singe or raking a talon across him. He was lucky that I wasn't exactly feeling like doing such a thing."
Oakspark shared the flicker of mirth, his ears perked. "It would certainly keep him on his toes, yes?" he noted as he approached. The heat from her fiery pelt radiated hotter. "Though it's dangerous for you to be out here alone." The alpha's brow was raised chidingly, but a wry smirk tugged at the corners of his maw.
"It would certainly keep him on his toes, yes?" came the response. I narrowed my unique beams in an almost playful manner. "Indeed it would." I angled my crown to the left as the mud toned brute continued his advance. "Though it's dangerous for you to be out here alone." he had added. I huffed and rolled my swirled marbles in amusement. "Oh psssh. Now Oakspark, you know that I am more than capable of protecting myself." I allowed those words to hang in the still warm air before I continued in a silvery tone. "Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have someone do the protecting for me every once in awhile."
That being said, I rose and went to meet the male lupine. I extinguished my scaled tail and tucked it under my feathered tail as I went to brush it along his flanks as I circled him once with a smirk to go with it. I'm sure that the serpentine tail hadn't cooled down completely, and would still feel warm, but not hot enough to cause any pain or to singe fur. I had stopped at the male's opposite flank; extending a wing and lightly brushing his shoulder with my primary feathers.
I laughed on the inside. There were two other females in my pack, but I didn't consider them to be competition. Atwood just had a solid white pelt and boring dark eyes, while Stormrunner had a sort of solid dark grey pelt that made her resemble a bit of grey sheep's wool in a way and yellow eyes. Boooooooooooring. I was easily the prettiest and the most exotic female there.
There weren't many males in my pack; in fact, there was only one other beside Oakspark, and that was Duskshadow. I didn't care much for that male. He was such a try-hard in my opinion.
His golden eye followed her as she stood and sashayed toward him. "Oh psssh. Now Oakspark, you know that I am more than capable of protecting myself." the wolf tsked, her fire dimming into smoldering embers. She spoke again with fluidity. "Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have someone do the protecting for me every once in awhile."
The alpha grinned crookedly. He certainly had to give it to her; not many had dared to play with him before the Fall, and for Silverfire to move so invitingly around him now... Well, it was certainly something he would not ignore. "Oh, forgive me, my dear," he amended with a low chuckle. "The danger is far greater to whomever finds your bad side, correct?"
"Oh, forgive me, my dear," my alpha had responded in a slightly amused tone. "The danger is far greater to whomever finds your bad side, correct?""Far greater." I replied. "Not many wolves know what to do with a feather clad wolf armed with two pairs of talons and a secondary tail that can morph into a fiery whip at a moment's notice." I thought back to the war. That Northern Islands wolf whose neck I had snapped before I had torched his body and to that idiotic Western Sky female who had bit down on my neck and had to be escorted out after her mouth and muzzle had been scorched by my mane of embers. Oh, what a little fool she was! Didn't she know that fire was capable of burning someone? Guess not.
I withdrew my wingtip from my alpha's shoulder blade and tucked it neatly against my feathered flank as I walked past the earthen man. My gait faltered as my right shoulder seized up then gave way, causing me to nearly collapse; luckily, I had caught myself just in time. Stupid training. I thought silently.
//God, I'm so much better at rping this stuff with humanoids ;.; And this is so short gah
--
His eye followed her as she sauntered past and stumbled, a low chuckle rumbling from his chest. It was true; not many wolves would know what to do with a soldier like Silverfire. It was really rather refreshing. She was something new - something hard to get. A challange.
The alpha raised a brow. "I think I know what to do with you," came his smooth reply as a sly smirk wormed onto his maw.
I growled in annoyance as I ran my forked reptilian tongue in between my digits before spitting out the dirt I had collected from them, allowing my feathered sails to relax and hang a little lower than they normally did. Bleh. I wasn't a plant wolf. I still kept the fire on my form at barely smoldering as I scanned my surroundings once again. Nothing but blue and purple. Occasionally, a fox-shaped patch of warm tones would appear among the backdrop of cool tones before it would vanish again into the tunnels under my talons.
"I think I know what to do with you," Oakspark's voice regained my focus. Hm? It wasn't Fall yet. But it sure is close by. I thought as I turned around to face the thickset male that had been standing behind me. I flicked my left ear once and tilted my head to the right. "You think?" I teased. Despite my displays of curiosity or confusion, I knew exactly what he was talking about and my uniquely dyed windows gave that away.
Sparks, he wouldn't have minded continuing on bantering in the least, but other thoughts pressed for attention. Even inviting distractions were still just that - a distraction. Perhaps once the dust had settled, Oak would participate more fully in the laid back ways of the Compass.
That being as it was, the alpha still held an appraising glint as he glanced Silverfire over. His Second held him in a half-lidded gaze as she tipped her head. "You think?" the female inquired as she feigned curiosity.
Oakspark stood in brief silence, enjoying the moment, before he drew his eye slowly down toward her shoulder. "Don't tell me you hurt yourself, love," the brute noted chidingly, his voice low.
Welcome to Compass Ross Packs territories. These wolves are... different than those of Earth. They live in a different realm, and the only way in or out is through the Transport wolves.
What are these wolves, you ask? These wolves have magic on their fur and the elements in their blood. These wolves have power. But will they use them for good, or for evil? That is up to you.
